Located in the St. Lawrence Market District, the Market Street Redevelopment project included three mid- to late-nineteenth century heritage buildings: 8 Market Street, 87 Front Street, and 10-12 Market Street. Conservation work was concentrated on the stabilization of the second-storey brick façade of 8 Market Street during construction of a new steel-frame structure. Work on the façade included extensive masonry repairs, the replication of second-storey wood windows and a brick parapet, and the recreation of a missing wood cornice. The ground floor was rebuilt in a modern style to distinguish old from new. A two-storey addition to the south was also constructed using red sandstone to blend with the adjacent red brick. The project extended to a complementary redesign of Market Street.
