Friends of Guild Park & Gardens
2013 Heritage Toronto Awards Nominee
Friends of the Guild Park and Gardens is a community-based organization created to improve, enhance, and protect Guild Park and Gardens, an 88-acre Scarborough park managed by the City of Toronto. Established in 2012, the Friends have worked with other volunteer groups, government and partner organizations to increase public awareness of the Park’s history as the home of the Guild of All Arts and the Guild Inn, and to promote the revitalization of the site. The organization quickly recruited well over 100 members, built an effective Facebook page, and has coordinated volunteer led walking tours that have attracted many new visitors to hear the story of the area.

The Community Heritage award is open to one volunteer community-based organization in each of the four Community Council areas as defined by Toronto City Council. The organization must be currently active, and have either initiated or completed a significant activity that promotes, protects or preserves cultural or natural heritage in its specific Community Council Area or across the wider City of Toronto. This is a cash award and no organization is eligible to receive it more than once every five years. This particular nominee falls within the Scarborough Community Council Area.
